What Is a Dragon Lineage?
A lineage is a dragon’s ancestral bloodline, the family stock it descends from. On the official Empyrean series site, lineages appear in each color’s description, such as the “cunning Dubhmadinn line” for black dragons. In the Dragonkind game, players report that the result card shows lineage as its own field below the dragon’s personal name. This page separates the lineages the official site names from the extra ones players have compiled.
Which Lineages Does the Official Series Site Name?
| Color | Lineage | What the official site says | Notable dragons listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black | Dubhmadinn | The cunning line | Codagh, Tairn |
| Blue | Gormfaileas | The extraordinary line | Sgaeyl, Aaric’s dragon |
| Green | Uaineloidsig | The honorable line, which sacrificed its ancestral hatching grounds at the current Basgiath War College | Feirge, Teine, Cuir |
| Green | Cruaidhuaine | Known for a strong magical connection, due to a rational, defensive nature | Feirge, Teine, Cuir |
| Orange | Fhaicorain | No description beyond the name | Claidh, Baide, Solas, Glane, Marbh |
| Red | None listed | The site gives red dragons no bloodline | Deigh, Sliseag, Cath, Ghrian, Thoirt |
| Brown | None listed | The site gives brown dragons no bloodline | Chradh, Aotrom, Aimsir, Fuil |
The official page does not say which green dragon belongs to which green line, so the green rows share one list.
Which Extra Lineages Do Players Report?
One player compilation, published on Dragonkind Guide, lists sixteen lineage names across the six colors, and the same list appears on other fan sites, which points to a shared source rather than independent confirmation. Eleven of the sixteen are not on the official site:
| Color | Reported extra lineages | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Black | Moerlaighen | Unverified |
| Blue | Nyghmuiron | Unverified |
| Green | Eifyrielle | Unverified |
| Orange | Tholiasych, Cariaslog | Unverified |
| Red | Berradhdyr, Wybjorian, Lyserachd | Unverified |
| Brown | Aldayrmar, Vormalgh, Rynonian | Unverified |
Spelling is not settled: Berradhdyr also appears as Berradhyr, and nobody has confirmed they are the same name. Treat these as leads to check against your own result card, not as established lore. A card showing one of these names is evidence that the game uses it, not that the novels do.
Which Notable Dragons Does the Official Site List by Tail Type?
The five tail types are Morningstartail, Daggertail, Swordtail, Scorpiontail, and Clubtail. The official list of notable dragons fills them unevenly:
| Color | Morningstartail | Daggertail | Swordtail | Scorpiontail | Clubtail |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black | Tairn | — | Codagh | — | — |
| Blue | — | Sgaeyl | — | — | Aaric’s dragon (unnamed) |
| Brown | — | — | Aotrom | Chradh | Fuil |
| Green | — | Feirge | — | — | Teine |
| Orange | — | Claidh, Solas, Glane, Marbh | — | Baide | — |
| Red | — | Deigh, Thoirt | Sliseag, Cath | Ghrian | — |
A dash means the site lists no notable dragon of that color and tail. Two more dragons are listed without a tail type: Aimsir (brown) and Cuir (green). The list is a selection of notable dragons, not a census, so a dash does not mean none exists. The official FAQ says you can bond dragons of all colors and tail types.
What Does the Dragonkind Result Card Show?
Players who share result cards report six fields: the dragon’s name, tail type, sex, age, color, and lineage. One fan guide illustrates a card, based on a player’s shared result, for a brown swordtail named Eidhich with the Rynonian lineage. That example and every other card we have seen come from player reports, not from the game’s publisher.
Two cautions when reading a card. A lineage is not a name, so copy both fields when you share a result. And a matching color and tail with a book dragon does not make your dragon that character: the lineage and name on your card identify your dragon.
How Many Dragon Types Are There?
Six colors and five tail types give thirty combinations, a figure that comes from player tracking rather than the official FAQ. The only official statement is the FAQ line that all colors and tail types are possible. For how each color is meant to be approached, start with the field guide explainer and the dragon bonding guide, and see how to survive Threshing Day for the rules that actually hold. If you have not played yet, how to play the Dragonkind game covers the login and the shape of a run, and the dragon bonding quiz is a low-stakes way to rehearse.
