When Is Fourth Wing Book 4 Coming Out?
The direct answer: nobody knows yet. Book 4 has no official title, no official release date, and no retailer listing that carries a real one. In July 2025, Radio Times noted that a Goodreads page had previously listed January 1, 2026; Yarros answered on Instagram Stories, “Let me put this rumor to rest. I love you all, but no. That release date is impossible.”
You may also see “April 2028” in fan write-ups. We could not trace that date to the publisher, the author’s website, or any retailer listing, so we do not treat it as confirmed. The same goes for any calendar-based guess for 2027 or 2028: they are extrapolations from past gaps, not announcements.
What Has Rebecca Yarros Said About Book 4?
The statements that come from Yarros herself or from major outlets quoting her:
- Five novels in total. Radio Times reports that the series is set to consist of five books, which leaves Book 4 and Book 5 after Onyx Storm.
- A contemporary novel came first. Radio Times reports that Yarros said she would turn to writing a contemporary novel for now, which fits the November 2026 release of Peculiar Stars below.
- Threshing Day is not Book 4. When she announced the collection she called it “my next book (not book four!)”.
- Writing may have started in March 2026. One fan site reports that Yarros said she began writing Book 4 that month. We could not find the original post, so treat that as reported, not confirmed.
- No title. As of this writing, neither the publisher nor Yarros has announced one.
What Is Coming From Yarros Before Book 4?
| Project | Date | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Threshing Day | September 29, 2026 (out now) | Empyrean #3.5, a companion collection of thirteen stories about one Threshing day; see the release date guide |
| Peculiar Stars | November 17, 2026 | A contemporary novel, not part of the Empyrean series |
| Fourth Wing graphic novel, Volume 1 | April 6, 2027 | An adaptation of the first book, not Book 4 |
| Prime Video series | No date announced | A series adaptation ordered by Prime Video, with Meredith Averill as showrunner and Lisa Joy directing the pilot, per Amazon |
| Dragonkind game | Live since October 1, 2026 | The free browser game; see how to play the Dragonkind game |
None of these is the next novel. The graphic novel retells Fourth Wing, and Peculiar Stars is a separate contemporary story.
How Long Do Empyrean Books Take?
| Book | Published | Gap from the previous main novel |
|---|---|---|
| Fourth Wing | May 2, 2023 | — |
| Iron Flame | November 7, 2023 | About six months |
| Onyx Storm | January 21, 2025 | About 14 months |
| Threshing Day (#3.5) | September 29, 2026 | About 20 months after Onyx Storm, and not a numbered novel |
| Book 4 | No date | Unknown |
The gaps vary too much to forecast Book 4. The only reliable signal will be an announcement from the publisher or the author.
